From Straight Lines To Triple Corks – History of Competitive Snowboarding part 3

11:16AM Mon, 18th March 2013

The third part of the World Snowboard Tour’s excellent video series looking at the history of competitive snowboarding moves from the inception of the Air & Style, to the explosion of snowboarding into the mainstream that occurred in the ’90s. With the first ever Winter X Games and freestyle snowboarding making it’s debut in the Olympics, for many, the ’90s really do represent the heyday of snowboarding.

Marvel over Jim Rippey’s unique Rippey flip in the 1997 Air & Style, hear Terje’s thoughts on boycotting the Olympics and watch Stefan Gimpl pull the sketchiest looking cab 9 to win the 1999 Air & Style. The tricks were fresh, the dramas were unprecedented and the personalities were extraordinary. Yep, the ’90s were a rad time for snowboarding.

Catch up on the previous two episodes in the series here.
