Cairngorm Opens for Summer Shred!

11:03AM Mon, 21st June 2010

Not a phrase you’d ever expect to read really, but apparently it’s true. Scotland’s hardcore got some summer shredding in over the weekend for the first time since… well, ever!

After enjoying the most epic season’s snowfall they’ve ever had, there was still enough of the white stuff lying around to make it worth heading up the hill – so the committed local crew rigged up a small generator-operated ‘portable ski lift’ and got their shred on! Steve McKenna was there to bag these sick shots.

He said: “For the first time in living memory, Cairngorm opened for the midsummer weekend with lift assisted sliding on offer yesterday and today.  OK by ‘lift assisted’ they actually meant two portable rope tows.  But Cairngorm reckon it was the first time it has ever happened. Around 100 or so folk turned up for a slide, but for most of them it was just to tick a box and say they’d done it. Who needs European summer glaciers, eh ;-)”

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
