A few days ago we reported that Shaun White had taken his short off to pose for the front cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. So we thought it was only fair that we reported on another couple of American snowboarders who’ve recently enjoyed mainstream ‘ahem’ exposure. These pictures of Olympic silver medallist Hannah Teter and young talent Clair Bidez recently appeared in Sports Illustrated… and yes it was their swimsuit issue.

Watch the action from the weekend and read our full match report

The Finnish phenomenon Peetu Piiroinen made history over the weekend, becoming the first man to win back to back TTR World Tour Titles after he took first place at the Oakley Arctic Challenge (TAC) in Tryvann Winterpark in Oslo, Norway.

Torstein, Peetu and Mikkel on the podium. Peetu will be given his World Tour Trophy after the final 6 Star Event, the US Open - Photo: Stubberud/TTR

Peetu had gone into the contest knowing that he needed to finish sixth or higher to take the title, and the change to a slopestyle format – rather than the customary quarterpipe session – would surely play into his hands. Solid first and second runs meant that as the unassuming Finn dropped in for his final run he knew the tour title was his. However, that didn’t stop him stepping up his game and throwing down a run worthy of a true champion – his super-clean backside 10 late cork, backside rodeo 7 and a massive straight air over the hip helped him edge out the previous leader, Torstein Horgmo.

Peetu goes huge on his final hit - Photo: Stubberud/TTR

Torstein, who had qualified through in first place on the Friday, had apparently been working late the night before to help shape the Viking-themed slopestyle course alongside fellow locals Terje Haakonsen and Mikkel Bang. His knowledge of his home mountain really showed when he dropped a couple of places before Peetu, and threw down what looked like the run of the weekend. Making ridiculously tech rail combos look easy is second nature to Torstein, and his backside 180 to switch 50-50 change up 270 out impressed the hell out of the judges. He followed this up with a cab three nose poke and then went huge over the kickers stomping a switch backside 12, and two sevens, to take the lead from Mikkel Bang.

With Norwegians sitting in first and second place, the large Oslo crowd were obviously pretty stoked – that is until Peetu turned up and blew the local boys out the water. As always, the almost painfully shy Peetu stopped short of actually sounding excited with his achievement, but judging by the smile on his face, I’d say he was pretty stoked. What with that Olympic silver medal, it’s not been a bad year for Mr Piiroinen really!

If you wanna watch the action, you can have a look at the level of riding on display in this edit from the qualifying day, or catch a full replay of the hour-and-a-half long contest on ttrworldtour.com

Have a look at Shaun's second Rolling Stone cover shot

Shaun White has achieved pretty much the highest level of celebrity ever earned by a snowboarder in the wake of his second Olympic Gold Medal in Vancouver. In fact, he’s so damn famous, he’s just been put on the front cover of Rolling Stone – for the second time!

This is the latest in a whirlwind of publicity that began pretty much the moment Shaun unstrapped his board after that epic final run. Like Ed reported from Vancouver, Shaun missed his own private celebration party to fly to Chicago, where he appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show – since then he’s been on pretty much every chat show going stateside.

Whether or not you agree with Shaun getting semi-naked, you’ve gotta admit he’s got balls impersonating the demi-god that is Jimi… that said, he still has nothing on Kanye

The shops will be offering up to 30 per cent off hard goods (so that’s boards, boots and bindings) and u to 50 per cent off their clothes and outerwear.

On top of this, the crew added: “As an extra Brucie bonus we are giving away two free snowboard DVDs worth £40 with every snowboard purchased during the sale.” Well, that all sounds pretty generous to us…

Nikita have hit us up to let us know that they’ve signed the super-shredette Lisa Filzmoser to their outerwear team. The girls appear to be pretty stoked about the fact, saying: “She has a great attitude and has an enviable style powering through park or busting out moves in big mountain terrain and powder.”

Lisa has appeared put down tons of great movie parts in the past few years, including this year’s all-girls film Stance (which you can watch in full here). Although she was part of the Nikita ‘Family’ before, having rocked the Icelandic brand’s streetwear for years, this is the first time Lisa will be wearing Nikita’s technical outerwear.

Ms Filzmoser sounds as stoked to be joining the Nikita crew as they are to have her on-board. She said: “I am super stoked to be on the Nikita Outerwear Team now too! The clothes just stand out, by design and comfort and all the passionate people that are behind it!” Sounds like a match made in heaven.

We interviewed Lisa a little while back, asking her about life in general, snowboarding and sex. To read her answers to our pressing questions, have a look here. We’re just looking forward to seeing what she does next.

The latest on the talented rider's traumatic brain injury

Kevin Pearce, who put himself in a coma after a training accident on New Year’s Eve, is apparently recovering well. His family, who have been updating the facebook page Well Wishes to our Friend Kevin Pearce with updates on his progress, posted an encouraging report today.

Doctors are apparently well-pleased with the steps KP is making towards recovery, with the head of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program saying: “We could not be more delighted and inspired by Kevin’s progress. Kevin’s treatment team has completed our comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation evaluation, and Kevin is actively engaged in a TBI treatment program, specially tailored to his needs.”

Kevin is apparently having speech therapy sessions, occupational therapy and “aquatic therapy sessions” (whatever they are) and is responding well to the treatment. The doctor added: “Due to his consistent hard work, his walking, short-term memory, and stamina are all improving. Kevin’s progress is very encouraging.” KP’s mum reckons that Kevin is in “excellent hands” at the hospital and said the family is “thrilled” with the way he’s recovering.

Let’s hope we see him out and about again soon. Get well quickly dude!

Snowboard art, photography and free booze... what more could you want?

The opening party for the Whitelines-backed White Room art exhibition is taking place tonight, at the LCB shop in Brick Lane. The art and photography show, which features work by Whitelines contributors James North, Nathan Gallagher and Damian Doyle, will be opened with a big ol’ bash in the shop/exhibition space, starting at 8pm tonight.

Mark Ward

We’ll certainly be heading down to see what snowboard snappers North and Gallagher have on display, and to check out art by Burton Blunt designer Mark Ward (who we interviewed for the Drawing Board pages of Issue 88) and Matt Blease. As well as all the pretty pictures hanging on the walls, there’ll be DJs spinning tunes and I’ve been led to believe there’ll be free booze…

So if any (or all) of the above sound like your scene, head on down to LCB snowboard shop, at 121 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 7DG. It’ll be worth it, trust us!

Check out this dope collection from the Land of the Rising Sun

Quiksilver, never ones to shy away from the cutting edge of fashion, have taken the trend for bright colours to the next level with their latest range of neon jackets.

The Neon Adikt collection (anyone wanna hazard a guess at why they called it that?) will be going on sale at the brand’s Regent Street store in the next few days. Apparently the shop is one of only a handful in Europe to have been given the new jackets, which were originally designed the Japanese market. They’re only going to be released as a super-limited edition range – in fact, there are less than 300 of these bright-coloured beasts in the whole of Europe.

As anyone who’s ever had the privilege of shredding Japan will know, the on-slope steeze out there is next level shit. Japanese kids rock all kinds of crazy fashions years before the rest of the world catches on. But though these jackets clearly have one eye firmly fixed on fashion, Quik have also got all their technical bases covered here – the jackets are stuffed with goose down, making them as warm and snuggly as duvets.

With all that going for them, it’s a fairly sure-fire bet that these jackets will fly off the shelves faster than Quik can stack them, so if you want to get your hands on one, you’d probably best be erm… quick (my god, that was a terrible pun, sorry).
