1080 on a skateboard! Tom Schaar lands first ever, at 12 years old!

05:22PM Fri, 30th March 2012

Skateboarder Tom Schaar has just become the first skater ever to land a 1080. That in itself is ridiculous enough, but what makes the feat even more ridiculous is the fact that Tom Schaar is just 12 years old. Yep, that’s right, a kid who was probably born in 1999 (1999 ffs!) is officially the only skater in the world to have landed this trick. He’s so young, it sounds like it’s his mum leading the cheers when he lands it, rather than his mates!

As was the case with Seb Toots’ triple, young Schaar had a bit of help from Red Bull, who built him this super-sized ramp to perfect the move on. But that’s by the by really, this is still frickin’ insane. Who else thinks Shaun White had better watch his back next time he drops into the vert ramp?

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
