Lucky Avalanche Escape

11:55AM Tue, 29th March 2011

Oh my days, this is one lucky lady! Kiwi shredder Maria Kuzma was competing in the 2011 Verbier Xtreme a week or so ago when she took a tumble and erm this happened. How much would you be crapping it if you felt the snow moving around you like that? And on a face as gnarly as the Bec des Rosses too! Think of all the cliffs she could’ve been carried over! The mainstream press reckons she’s ‘riding’ the avalanche down like some massive wave – we reckon she’s being washed away, and she’s lucky as hell to come out on top. You’ve got to hand it to Maria though, she seems to take the whole thing in her stride. Check out the way she casually brushes off her bindings when she comes to a stop at the end! She is a kiwi though, they’re never easily impressed. You can almost imagine her accent: “Awwh yiiiyah, it wosn’t thit sceeery eh? Thit was nathing. Whativer!”

Tristan Kennedy

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
