Burton US Open - Mini Creative Use of Space Award - Ellery Hollingsworth & Taku Hironaka win Halfpipe

12:28PM Thu, 15th March 2012

Taku Hiraoka and Ellery Hollingsworth won the Mini Creative Use of Space Award at this year’s US Open, each finishing the weekend $5,000 richer for their troubles. In the halfpipe, the contest requires riders to do a slightly unusual trick, so Ellery’s sick, grabbed backside rodeo won for the women while Taku’s Japan McTwist took the title for the men. $5,000 eh? Not bad for a quick couple of seconds’ work is it…?

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
