Iouri Podlatchikov lands switch double McTwist 1260

05:05PM Tue, 18th October 2011

Iouri “iPod” Podlatchikov has stepped up and done one over Shaun White by landing a switch version of the ginger wonder’s signature trick – the Double McTwist 1260, or Tomahawk flip. The pipe specialist, who’s part-Russian, part-Swiss, and all nutter, was one of the few (if not the only one) who learned the trick in Shaun’s wake, nailing it before the end of last season and using it to claim silver at last winter’s X Games Europe.

Apparently Iouri buggered himself up pretty badly learning this headfuck of a manouvere, landing himself in hospital before he landed the trick. Still, he looks pretty stoked with the whole thing. We’re also impressed, though we can’t help thinking it’s not the most massive step forward – while technically it’s obviously brilliant, there’s got to be an argument that says that riding like this is more progressive…

Interestingly, if you watch the long version of the video (hit ‘more’ to see it) iPod claims it will be a while before he attempts one in competition. Whether it would guarantee the man a gold at the Aspen X Games, or not is anyone’s guess – we can’t imagine Shaun will waste any time in trying to go one better – what next, halfpipe triples?!

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
