Jake Blauvelt - Naturally Project
Has Jake also managed to do his market research perfectly? With the public at large still frothing over the ‘Art of Flight‘ project, could this film be cashing in on the success and effectively the money that Travis Rice spent breaking into the public domain?
We don’t know. What we do know is this looks so good, with a line up of John Jackson, Eric Jackson, Kazu Kokubo and Terje Haakonsen we’re going to be watching the days roll by till it drops. Unfortunately that’s not going to be anytime soon as it has a release date of…AUTUMN 2013 Damn you Jake!

Might go as far as to say my favourite rider… It’s going to be epic pow!! http://t.co/mNIYqo3g
“Seriously don’t miss this one…”
Really? Why? Because we might miss the oh so deep powder? The slow mo high fives? The crackly walkie talkie calls of “droppin’”? “All I think about when I’m strapped in is how I’m gonna have the most fun…” Well thanks for that Jake.
As much as I love snowboard movies I am getting a little tired of what passes for the “don’t miss this under any circumcisions” snowboard movie.” Yes, I admire how may spins you do off that cliff, and I’m sure it took a lot of man hours to build that kicker in the middle of nowhere. But can someone please do something different? Give me a reason to drag my mates out of a pub and say this is what it’s all about about!
I hope that now David Benedek has finished writing (and designing) the definitive snowboarding book he can now return to producing some decent movies that we can all identify with. And on that note I now have to go back to teaching people wearing swimming goggles how to get down the green slope on a Burton rental board.
Paul.
Have to agree with Paul. There is nothing unmissable about this at all. And I failed to see at any time in that trailer how Jake ‘flowed effortlessly from terrain to terrain’ or whatever the quote was. I know people in the industry have to make noise about the latest products, etc but in the end it becomes a credibility thing. From WL we expect bonafide independent critical review, not tireless inaccurate promotion…and it feels like its the latter is becoming more the norm. Give me 91 words for snow over this all day.
The reason why I think this is un-missable is because I have the feeling that this project will be able to achieve what Art of Flight failed to do (in my opinion)
It managed to appeal to a wider audience that any film has before, my mates that don’t snowboard suddenly started buying it and talking about it in the pub..rad right?
But to me as a snowboarder, it failed to get me all fire up to shred. It failed because so much money was pumped into it, it became an un-accessible style of film. Fuck, when are any of us going to go to Patagonia and shred a volcano glacier ice waterfall thing?
I believe Naturally can bridge that gap. I think Jake has the ability to make a film that not only speaks to me as a snowboarder but manages to get my friends all fired up as well.
I don’t think any other style of film will ever garner as much interest to the non-snowboarders of the world as the big mountain ones. I don’t think that Jed Anderson or Dan Brisse will ever attract as many people to snowboarding as Terje or Jake.
Dan, I’m sorry but I genuinely can’t believe you think that. I completely understand that everyone has their own opinion and this obviously doesn’t float your boat but I think your mad.
Tireless inaccurate promotion? Or are we just stoked every year to see how people are changing the game? Stoked that snowboarders are fired up year after year to do better, to change opinions, push boundaries?
I think for you both to dismiss this project is a massive mistake but I guess we’ll all find out this time next year…

Agreed, but silly boy’s missed the fact I’d pre-order now for a little pressie to arrive through the post in autumn 2013. Would fund even more insane shenanigans.
