JP Walker in The Shakedown

07:36PM Wed, 3rd March 2010

Salt Lake City jib pioneer JP Walker has enjoyed a career that has spanned across three decades of snowboarding at the highest level – an impressive feat for any rider. But while he may be best known as one of the inspirations behind the late 90s jibbing revolution, he’s also one of the most balls-out backcountry riders the world has ever seen – no exaggeration.

In this career-defining part, which is taken from Mack Dawg’s 2003 movie The Shakedown he not only takes down rails and drops cliffs like it ain’t no thang, he also casually throws in the first two double-corks ever caught on film towards the end. So if anyone tries to tell you that Shaun White invented the trick, get your do-rag out, square up to them and tell ‘em where to stick it – because this is how we do it baby. Uh.

Tristan Kennedy

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
