Nescafe Championships Leysin - Lucien Koch and Cilka Sadar win!

10:30AM Thu, 17th February 2011

Lucien Koch, an insanely young Swiss rookie, took the men’s slopestyle title at the 5-Star TTR Nescafe Championships in Leysin last weekend. The 15-year-old stomped a 720, followed by a back 9, cab 9 and another back 9 on the unusual slopestyle course to land himself in first place. Cilka Sadar won the women’s title. Despite the fact that they clashed with the Air & Style in Munich this year, the Championships still managed to attract an impressive field of big-name riders, including invitees Risto Mattila, and the UK’s very own Dan Wakeham! Dan may be better known for his pipe talents than his skills on the slopestyle course, but he can still throw together a mean sequence of tricks – as anyone who’s watched him ride outside of competitions will testify. You can watch the video highlights of the comp here, or read Dan’s account of the event here.

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
