Phil Mills season edit - yay or nay?
What does it take to land a sponsor these days? Sick riding? A must. A prolific bag of tricks? Yep. Style? Definitely helps! As a basic standard, most would probably agree that a ‘sponsor me’ style edit should contain 1) no zeaches 2) no reverts and 3) definitely no illegal grabs.
This edit from Phil Mills has some good stuff in it – that backflip step-up at 00:23 is ballsy, no question and the back three tailgrab at 1:50 is pretty styley, but Phil also happens to be guilty of all of the aforementioned no no’s. The 360 tailfish at 1:02 is a prime example of a trick that should never ever (in a million years!) be slow-mo’d. And what’s up with the weird negative effect, questionable music choice and random chairlift slow-mo?
Are we being too harsh here? Or is a spot of constructive criticism healthy in this day and age? What do you think of Phil’s edit?

nothing but park in such a wicked season… Hmmm suspicious! Lacking a bit of fluidity, go and ride some more changeable terrain and explore a bit then come back to the park. That would be my advice. Nice one though, keep playing!
It’s a sponsor me video?!
I think constructive criticism is definitely healthy. You guys covered all the most offensive point. Although that first zeach on the fat tube down the stairs which was then replayed near the end. For the sake of your own edge catching safety and the pain it causes everyone elses eyes make sure your board slides are 90 degrees and between the feet.
Cool little edit for him and his mates to watch to get amped for shredding but a long way from being a sponsor me vid. Be interested to find out if he did get a hook-up… if so I’m putting something together!
This said I remember watching a sponsor me vid from Eddie Wall on Video Gangs Extras and thinking ‘What?’, but now look at him.
definitely think the tail fish shouldn’t have been done (not saying i don’t like it but if your trying to get sponsored this is a big no – no. although kudoes for having the balls to do it), just showing stuff like park riding is ok if you lay it heavy on with tricks and you have a flow to the vid. but it is still always nice to have different styles mixed in there purely for the fact it shows your an all around snowboarder and not just an out-and-out park rider who is too lazy to trek a ways to get some fresh powder.
just my two cents!
Rubbish, no style, no panache, not much skill.
Seriously, there are 10 year olds that have better skills and style than this chap, average seasonaire, sure, nothing more…
Hey guys. thank you for the constructive criticism. I understand i got a long way to go, but this vid does me no justice at all. i had to do this edit in a weekend and it lacks so much stuff that i did in that season.
it sucks that the camera guy caught me doing the no no grabs which i understand suck and im angry he got the tail fishes instead of stales.
I hope to get a professional camera crew and put together an edit thats worth watching. Sorry you had to see this. Didnt realise it was on whiteline ha!
Kind Regards
Phil Mills
