Shaun White wins Winter X Games 2012 Superpipe with perfect score

10:18AM Mon, 30th January 2012

Shaun White claimed his fifth consecutive winter X Games Gold medal last night by notching up a perfect score of 100 with his final run in Aspen. In front of a monster crowd, the ginger wonder overcame a fall on an earlier run (and the fact that he appeared to have traded trousers with a Rochdale slapper) to nail his new run – which includes back-to-back double McTwist 1260s. Iouri Podlatchikov got second, with a run that he reckoned was his best ever, but still scored a mere 93 points. Japanese prodigy Ryo Aono claimed the bronze.

Say what you like about Shaun or his leopard-print leggings (in fact, we’d love to hear what you think of those leggings in the comments below) but that is seriously impressive. Can’t help wondering what happened to that terrible ankle injury that had him hobbling off the slopestyle course only 24 hours before though… what do you mean he was just shit-scared of Seb Toots?

Tristan first stepped on a snowboard at the age of 12, and (despite being a bit rubbish) has made a point of riding as often as possible since. He joined Whitelines in 2009, and writes, shoots, films and edits for both the magazine and the website. Having headed up the team in charge of the Whitelines Buyers' Guide for the past four seasons knows more about the geeky side of snowboard kit than anyone should ever have to know.
