World Snowboarding Championships Slopestyle - Chas Guldemond and Spencer O'Brien win

06:38PM Mon, 20th February 2012

So the dust has settled, the crowds have cleared and the innaugural World Snowboarding Championships has come to an end, crowning six riders with the title of World Champion across three events. Following on from Olivier Gittler’s surprise quarterpipe win on Friday, and Iouri Podlatchikov’s winning antics on Saturday night, Chas Guldemond stepped up to win Sunday’s men’s slopestyle finals. Given that Chas has been killing it for years now, seeing him top the podium at this event is not entirely unexpected, but it’s still by far the biggest win of the Californian’s career so far. His technical run on a difficult course saw him blow away the competition, including an impressive Sebastien Toutant, who got 2nd, and Belgium’s Seppe Smits, who came third.

In the women’s event, it came down to who could put down their best tricks on the massive kickers. Qualification had seen some of the ladies struggling with the sheer size of a course which had forced more than a few of the men to alter their regular runs. However in the finals, Spencer O’Brien held on to her run and stomped a front five to switch back five to front seven combo that won her the title. Jamie Anderson, surely one of the favourites for the event, had to settle for second despite a more impressive showing on the rails, while Enni Rukajarvi came third. Check out the second and third place videos below.
